Do you remember when the Fairy Godmother turned a pumpkin into a coach to take Cinderella to the ball? Back in the 15th century the term “coach” was the word used to describe a four-wheeled, horse drawn vehicle, just like you see in Cinderella. The coach was used to transport people from one place to another. Today, coaching is similar. While Cinderella needed a pumpkin coach to help her get to the ball, a leadership coach also helps move people from one place to another. It’s about forward movement or making progress in your life. Where do you want to go and when do you want to get there?
According to the International Coaching Federation (ICF), “Personal and business coaching is an ongoing professional relationship that helps people produce extraordinary results in their lives, careers, businesses or organizations.” Extraordinary results? I like the sound of that! But you’re probably thinking, why do I need help to get results? I can do this on my own. Yes, you might be able to do this on your own, but sometimes we all need a little help! Or, perhaps you’re making progress but you are not sure where to go next. A coach can help with this!
Most often, when someone says that they are a coach, people ask, “what sport”? While the coaching we’re talking about is not related to sports, it is similar in that it’s about improving performance. A healthy coaching relationship is rooted in two things: the strengths, gifts, dreams, goals and willingness to be coached and a coaches’ training, skills, experience and preparation.
As a coach my desire is to help women move forward, make improvement, reach goals, and leverage their strengths and talents to be successful. My role is to help stimulate and bring to the surface what is already within you, and partner with you to clarify and connect to your purpose and dreams. While some people can do this on their own, often having someone to help guide you can make all the difference. As your coach I’ll listen to you and help you see things from a different perspective. I can coach you in any area of your life: health, career, parenting, marriage, or your spiritual life. I can partner with you to focus on topics that are relevant in your life, and help promote learning and discovery.
The good news about coaching is that it assumes that you have everything within you that you need to make progress and realize your goals. You are the expert on your life. It’s not like a mentor relationship, where the mentor is the expert and imparts their knowledge upon you.
Sometimes the next steps might seem obvious, but you may feel stuck and not know which way to go. As your coach, I will help you figure out the next steps you desire to move forward. What have you got to lose? It worked for Cinderella!
